While the parched lawn is withering from fungus infestations, brick walkways are being constructed to connect, in a traditional manner, the East Lawn with the West Lawn. Plans to build this walkway were drawn up as soon as it was discovered that the lawn would have to die. Don Niehaus, University landscaper, termed the end-of-summer dehydrated and parched appearance of the Lawn a "matter of circumstance."
