University of Virginia Library

ACTION Speech

Neal R. Berle, Dean of the
New College of the University
of Alabama and author of,
most recently, "Innovations in
Undergraduate Education:
Selected Institutional Profiles
and Some Thoughts About
Experimentalism," will speak
tonight at 8 in the Newcomb
Hall Ballroom on the
University Year for ACTION
(UYA) Program.

He is conducting an
evaluation of the 25 UYA
programs now operating at
colleges and universities. The
University recently received a
UYA grant to plan a program
to place 25 volunteers in
academically useful
community projects within a
50 mile radius of the
University, beginning the
second semester.

The projects will be
oriented toward health and
education problems in the
communities. Applications for
the UYA program, which will
involve undergraduate and
graduate level students in the
pre-professional schools, will
be available at the meeting, or
at the UYA Office, 6th Floor
of The Towers, Thursday and
Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
