[Venus, in sport, to please therwith her dere]

Venus, in sport, to please therwith her dere,
Dyd on the helm off myghty Mars the red.
Hys spere she toke, hys targe she myght not stere;
She lokt as tho her foys shuld all be ded,
So wantonly she frownyth wyth her chere.
Priapus gan smyle and sayd; ‘Doway for dred,
Do way, maddame, theys wepyns gret and grym.
I, I for you am wepyn fytt and trym.’
