They show the traveller still a lonely tomb,Hid in the darkness of a cloister's gloom;

No other monument is near it found.
A figure closely veil'd bends o'er the stone,
Only the arm with its strange bracelet shown—
A serpent twining round: beneath are graved
A few brief words, that passing pity craved—
“Pray for the wounded heart, the sinful deed;”
And, half effaced, a name—“Amenaïde.”
