SONG OF ADORATION TO GOD.

In that day shall this song be sung in the land.—
Isaiah 26: 1.

Lord! in the Temple of thy love,
Bowed in thy radiance from above,
Mantled with thy redeeming light,
And ordered in thy steps aright;
Let the soft wooings of thy wings
Shadow the music of my strings.
Lord! like the desert fount that flowed
Fast by the feet of Hagar bowed,
Thirsting amid the desert wild
She wandered with her outcast child—
Oh! pour upon me thy soft beams,
And circle me with heavenly streams.

If, in the whirlwinds of the sea,
A prayer is offered up to thee;
If thou art on the page of night,
Written in syllables of light;
And if thy hands have made the sun,
Lord! tell me what thou hast not done!
If thou hast ceiled the heavens with blue,
And laced them with the morning dew;
If thou hast placed the stars of light
Upon the curtains of the night;
And if thy hands have made them ways,
Lord! let me offer up my praise!
If, from the chaos of old Night,
The stars were whispered into slight!
If, when another word was given,
The sun stood on the hills of heaven!
And if these things were made for me,
Lord! tell me what to do for thee!
Lo! if the universe hath words,
And they are spoken by the birds!
And if the rivers roll along
In the deep eloquence of song;
If these have been since time began,
Lord! what should be the praise of man!
If night doth prophesy to night
The language of the morning light;
And if the morning doth appear
To whisper to the evening near;
And if these things pour forth to thee,
Lord! what should not be said by me!

Are not the songsters of the grove
Vocal with thy redeeming love?
Are not the burning stars of even
The members of thy church in heaven?
And if they are but lamps to me,
Lord! teach me how to worship thee.
