Concert Series Brings
Iowa String Quartet

The Iowa String Quartet,
playing on four Stradivarius
instruments, will perform on the
Tuesday Evening Concert Series
program at 8:15 tonight in Cabell
Hall Auditorium.

The quartet, which is in
residence at the University of Iowa,
has won considerable acclaim
throughout the world in its first
dozen years. For its Charlottesville
appearance, the quartet has chosen
to play Quartet in A Major, Opus
18, No. 5 by Beethoven; Quartet
No. 3 by Bartok, and Quartet in G
Minor, Opus 10 by Debussy.

Violinists in the quartet are
Allen Ohmes and John Ferrell.
William Preucil plays the viola and
Charles Wendt is the violinist.

The quartet plays on
Stradivarius instruments on loan
from the Corcoran Gallery of Art in
Washington. The instruments were
once owned by Paganini and the
viola in the set is the same
instrument for which the great
Italian virtuoso asked Berlioz to
compose "Harold in Italy."
