ANNA, MY DEAR!

[_]

AIR,—“Robin Adair.”

Whence springs that bosom sigh,
Mournfully drear?
Why in thy languid eye
Starts the sad tear?
“Oh! 'tis for her that's gone
To that dark world unknown,
And left me here alone—
Anna, my dear!
“Now, though the smile of spring
Nature doth cheer,
And birds melodious sing,
Charming the ear;
Still every grot and grove,
While there I pensive rove,
Echoes this dirge of love—
‘Anna's not here!’
“Sad now the tinkling rill
Sighs on my ear;
Thoughts through my bosom thrill
Painful to bear!
Still round her lonely urn
Shall sad remembrance mourn;
Yet never will return
Anna, my dear!”
