SUNDAY SCHOOL MOVEMENT:
first begun in 1780 by an ANGLICAN Clergyman Robert RAIKES in Gloucester, England, to teach children to read and encourage PIETY. The movement quickly spread throughout the English speaking world and into continental Europe as the forerunner of UNIVERSAL education.
