A THOUGHT.
Though Laughter seems, it never is, the antithesis to Tears;The gayest births of Circumstance or Fancy
But minister in masquerade to Sovereign Grief, who rears
Her temple by that moral necromancy
Which fuses down to one dark mass all passions of Life's years;
And, as from even adverse facts Vallancey
Proved us mere Irish to be Orientals,
Nature makes Grinning Schools turn men out Sentimentals.
