SUFFERING, THE PROBLEM OF:
the EXISTENCE of pain and suffering in the world whether it is individual misfortune or part of the NATURAL order such as storms and earthquakes and raises the question whether the UNIVERSE is essentially hostile to human life. This is often seen a problem for THEISM because it is posed in terms of the GOD'S goodness, knowledge and power but even if God does not exist, questions of MEANING and purpose would still exist.
