Clarification

The magnitude of the outrage stirred by
our April Fools' edition — published just
before Spring Break — proves several things:
Some of the articles were so convincing many
people actually believed them. In fact, some
of the angriest readers were among those who
were the most taken in. Complaints about
"bad taste" have been pouring in for more
than a week, but we tend to view "good
taste/bad taste" dichotomies with skepticism.
While we appreciate all views on the subject,
the variety of responses illustrates the lack of
hard standards by which to judge such
material.

We regret that some readers found our
"in-house" humor so reprehensible, and
apologize to those who were inconvenienced
as a result of the issue.
