Whispered Information

One coed reported her experience as
follows:

"Last fall, I walked into Student Health and
asked for birth control information. The
woman behind the desk disappeared for a few
moments, then reappeared with a pamphlet put
out by Planned Parenthood of Central Virginia.
Whispering and pointing, the woman said, "This
is the name of the organization and these are
the numbers you can call." The
pamphlet, entitled "For Help in Family
Planning," listed the names, addresses and
phone numbers of 50 University and
Charlottesville doctors."

This semester the situation has changed
considerably. A coed seeking birth control
information and help is not given an
appointment in the Wednesday or Thursday
afternoon gynecology clinic, a fully equipped
clinic within student health complete with a
"Make Love Not War" poster hanging on the
door.
