Wide Load Stops
Traffic Tomorrow
By Dan Dean

"Wide Load" is a term generally
associated with traffic; Saturday's
dance is no exception, for Newcomb
Hall Ballroom will be filled
with traffic wishing to hear one of
the most experienced professional
groups the D.C. area. Consisting of
four Virginia students the Wide
Load specializes in hard rock, rock
composed by all members of the
Load. Consequently, original material
comprises over half of their
repertoire.
The founder-leader of the group,
Mike Mulvaney, doubles as vocalist
and harmonicist. Both Chet Blakistone
and Richard Crucioli display
versatility, Chet on the guitar,
piano and flute, Rich on the bass,
guitar and vocals. Randy Latimer,
percussionist, is the most recent
member, having made his Wide
Load debut in September.
Formed in Washington almost
two years ago, the Wide Load was
originally blues-based. After switching
its style to hard rock the group
was acclaimed by WHMC radio as
"one of the four top rock groups in
Washington." Both Capitol and
Mercury have made advances to the
Load, but the outfit is awaiting
even better offers. Charlottesville
will lose the Wide Load next
summer when the group will
attempt to compete with the
national music traffic.
The 9-1 AM dance is sponsored
by the Alderman Legislative Council
in conjunction with the University
Union. Admission is $2.00 per
couple. There are high hopes for
the Wide Load - all that the traffic
will bear.
