SHAW, George Bernard (1856-1950):
Irish playwright and critic who, along with others, was the dominant figure in the influential FABIAN SOCIETY to advance democratic SOCIALISM through gradual REFORM. A strident critic of established RELIGION, he promoted his own view of an evolutionary spirituality.
