OLD LUBIN.

Beside a small stream, where grows many a willow,
Stands the cot of Old Lubin the swain,
Content cheers his threshold, health softens his pillow,
And Lubin's the father of Jane;
His locks they are grey, but his nerves are well strung,
And he taught her a ditty, which often he sung,
“When the rose-leaf is blighted, its perfumes remain,”
Sung Lubin, Old Lubin, the father of Jane.
“Your eyes they are bright, and your cheeks they are blooming,”
He said, “but this counsel I give,
“Frail beauty time quickly is sure of consuming,
“While virtue for ever will live.”
