LIGHT FOR CHRISTMASTIDE.

[Hail, brightest morning of the year!]

Hail, brightest morning of the year!
Shall we not welcome thee?
Shall not our hearts pour forth their love,
Our lips their melody?

[Sweetest of the heavenly voices]

Sweetest of the heavenly voices
Falling on earth's sleeping ear,—
Glory, glory in the highest,
Peace and love from God we hear.

[All, all is well]

All, all is well
For man and for man's earth;
Behold the blessed pledge,
In this celestial birth.

[Sing thy new song, O Earth!]

Sing thy new song, O Earth!
Lift up thy voice and praise!
This is the Morn of morns,
This is the day of days,
Thy King has come!

[Peace, only peace is here]

Peace, only peace is here,
Peace coming from on high;
Incarnate peace, thro' Him who came
For us to live and die.
May that celestial store
Of peace be thine for evermore.

[He came, the Child of Light]

He came, the Child of Light,
In that mysterious night
When angels brought to earth
Tidings of the great Birth—
The glad sweet news of God's eternal grace
Long hid, but shining in the Infant's face.
