The Morning Call

The two fox-terrier puppies went
To call upon the cat;
They climbed her front-door step with pain
Because they were so fat.
The stable pussy was not pleased:
'Twas not her “day at home,”
The puppies knew that very well,
But yet they chose to come.
People who call on any day
But the one day you set,
If they should have cold shoulder,
Deserve the fare they get.
The pussy scratched, and bit, and fought,
And pushed the puppies away;
I wish I could treat callers so
Who disregard my day!
