SONG.
I
Silvia was tender, soft, and young,The Wonder of the Plain,
The Theme of every Shepherd's Song,
And Auth'ress of his Pain.
II
To gaze on her each am'rous BoyWould waste the livelong Day,
Let Wolves his helpless Lambs destroy,
Or Flocks unheeded stray.
III
But Silvia, rash, unthinking Maid!Too fondly turn'd a Wife,
Let all her blooming Beauties fade,
And lost the prime of Life.
IV
So on the Tree the blushing RoseCharms all beholding Eyes;
But, pluck'd and torn from whence it grows,
It withers, fades, and dies.
