On the Invention of Letters.

From Brebeuf.

The Noble Art from Cadmus took its rise
Of painting Words, and speaking to the Eyes:
He first in wondrous Magick Fetters bound
The Airy Voice, and stopt the flying Sound:
The various Figures by his Pencil wrought,
Gave Colour, and a Body to the Thought.
