Incipiunt hic matutinas de cruce in anglicis uerbis transposit.

Erly in a morewen
þe Jewes Jesu gan take,
Hys frendys and hys dysciplis
sone hym hadde fforsake.
þey beten hym and buffettyd hym
and al nyȝt garte hym wake,
Al þis suffryd Jesu Cryst
ffor synful mennys sake.
Wiþ an O and I,
þer was a gret sorwe!
Hou may man forȝete Jesu
on euen and a morwe?

Hora prima ductus est Jesus ad Pilatum.

At prime, forto deme Jesus to deþe,
Pylate gan forþ drawe.
Fals wytnesse bewreyeden hym
off many a wykkyd sawe,
þey spattyd in hys fayre face,
as men wiþ outen lawe;
Ne wolde þey neuere leue hym,
tyl þey hadden hym slawe.
Wiþ an O and an I,
Jesus my lemman,
Woo forbled is þy body,
þy bryȝte rode was al wan.

At vndern, to do Jesus to deþe,
lowde gunne þey crye;
þey beten hym wiþ scourges kene,
whyl þey myȝten drye;
þey corownyd hym wiþ a þorn,
þe blood ran to hys yȝe,

to þe mount off Caluerye,

hys vysage þey al forbete,
þere men myȝte for drede se
blood off hys yȝen swete.

Hora sexta Jesus est cruci conclauatus.

At mydday he was naylyd, foot and hand,
Jesus to þe roode;
þey henge by hym twoo þeuys,
as men þat were woode.
Sory were Marye and Jhon,
by hym þere þey stode;
þey gouen hym drynke eysel and galle,
Jesus, þat blysful ffoode,
Wiþ an O and an I,
as men þat were madde.
For who so þynkes on þat sorwe,
hou may he be gladde?

Hora nona dominus Jesus exspirauit.

At noon þyrlede hys syde
Longeus, a blynde knyȝt;
He wypyd hys eyen wiþ þe blood,
þer wiþ he hadde hys syȝt.
þe erþe qwook, þe stones schoke,
þe sunne loste here lyȝt,
Dede men resen out off here graue,
þat was Goddys myȝt!
Wiþ an O and an I,
þat on þe rode vs bouȝte,
For men þat were in helle for synne,
Jesus out hem brouȝte.

De cruce deponitur hora vespertina.

At euesong Joseph and Nychodemus
took hym off þe tree.
Mary was so forweped,
here sone myȝte sche nouȝt see.

Sone, sche sayde, wiþ þy fadyr
in heuene is þy pouste;
þou schalt ryse fro deþ to lyue,
as þou seydyst to me.
Wiþ an O and I,
boþe god and man,
þorwȝ þy deþ was blysse bouȝt
þat lorn was þorwȝ Adam.

Hora completorij datur sepulture.

At complyn þre Maryes hooff hym
and layde hym in a ston.
Pylate bad off Crystys frendes,
þey scholde leue non.
He sette þre kynges to kepe hym,
awey scholde he nouȝt gon,
And ȝit he ros from deþ to lyue
ffor hem euerychon.

he ros from hem euerychon
And schewyd hym to Marye Mawdeleyne
and oþere many on.

a ful fayr pardoun
To alle þat þese matynys saye
wiþ good deuocyoun,
Or þat haue in mynde
in herte off hys passyoun,
A tweluemonþ in purgatorye
off a ful remyssyoun.

Jesus, off þy grace
þou sende vs here oure sustenaunse
and in heuene a place.
