29 Fraternities
Support Strike

"We wish to express our support
of the University Strike against the
escalation of the war in South East
Asia and the tragedies at Kent
State."

This statement was circulated
among the fraternities of Virginia
on Thursday and Friday of last
week by Richard Tuggle and Peter
Dandridge, two students at the
University. Twenty-nine of the 33
fraternities on the grounds
supported the above statement.
They were: Alpha Epson Pi, Alpha
Tau Omega, Beta Theta Pi, Chi Psi,
Delta Kappa Epsilon, Delta Sigma
Phi, Delta Upsilon, Kappa Sigma.

Also included were: Phi Delta
Theta, Phi Epsilon Pi, Phi Gamma
Delta, Phi Kappa Psi, Phi Kappa
Sigma, Phi Sigma Kappa, Pi Kappa
Alpha, Pi Lambda Phi, St. Anthony
Hall, St. Elmo Hall, Sigma Alpha
Epsilon, Sigma Alpha Mu, Sigma
Chi, Sigma Nu, Sigma Pi, Tau
Kappa Epsilon, Theta Chi, Theta
Delta Chi, Zeta Beta Tau, Zeta Psi.

Three of the four fraternities
which did not support the
statement did so because of specific
restrictions in their charters. Such
widespread support among the
fraternities for a political cause is
unprecedented.
