“To arms—to arms!”—the warriors cried,
And wav'd their flaming falchions wide.
O'er Edward's brow the chiefs on high
Their banners rais'd triumphantly:
Their voice, the shout of victory.

It ceas'd—in silent awe, amaz'd,
The warriors on Alvarez gaz'd,
While swift before his heav'n-fix'd eye
Swept visions of futurity.
