May 18th
May 18th Having taken my ride I got my usual before breakfast
lessons after which I wrote an exercise, & read 16 pages in the
history of England. I read no more because I finished the second volume . It was the reign of Edward III
that the manufacture of wool was introduced into England in the
thirteenth century. He encouraged foreign weavers to come over to his
kingdom and passed an act forbidding
everyone to wear any cloth but of English fabric. I heard Nanny her
lesson but she said it very badly. After dinner I got a geography
lesson.
