TWO CHILDREN—

I saw two small children entwine
Their arms about each other
Like the little tendrils of the vine
Around its nearest brother;
And ever and anon,
So gayly they ran on,
Each looked into the other's face
Anticipating an embrace.
And all my thoughts went with the pair.
I ran my fingers through my hair
And wished I had a child's embrace.
They're undefiled—and not debase.
Innocent child and snow-white flower,
Well are you paired in your opening hour,
Thus should the pure and the lovely meet:
Stainless with stainless and sweet with sweet.
