Observatory Opening
The University observatory at Fan
Mountain will be open for the only time this
semester on Friday, October 29 from 7 to 10
p.m.
Weather permitting, a 32-inch reflecting
telescope will be used to view Mars or the
moon. The University's new 40-inch telescope
has now been installed, but is not yet complete
and will not be used at this open house.
The Fan Mountain station is located about
15 miles south of Charlottesville on Route 29
near Covesville. There will be a sign on the
highway marking the entrance. Visitors are
requested to arrive before 8:30 p.m. to avoid
congestion on the very narrow road leading up
the mountain.
