LEAVES OF ABSENCE

The following resolution was adopted:

  • RESOLVED that the following faculty members be and they are hereby granted leave of absence:
  • Mr. Edward L. Ayers, Assistant Professor of History, for the period January 16, 1985 through May 31, 1985, to do research.
  • Mr. John D. Bonvillian, Associate Professor of Psychology, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1984, to do research.
  • Mr. David W. Carter, Associate Professor of Mathematics, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1984, to extend visiting faculty position at Chatham College in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
  • Ms. Jenny S. Clay, Assistant Professor of Classics, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1984, to accept an NEH Grant at Cornell.
  • Mr. Charles E. Echols, Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering, for the period September 1, 1984 through January 15, 1985, for personal reasons.
  • Mr. John G. Garrard, Professor of Slavic Languages and Literature, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1984, to write a book.
  • Mr. Adrian R. Gear, Associate Professor of Biochemistry, for the period April 1, 1984 through June 30, 1984, as he has received an NIH fellowship.
  • Mr. Omer A. Gianniny, Jr., Professor of Humanities, School of Engineering and Applied Science, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1984, for research.
  • Mr. David T. Gies, Associate Professor of Spanish, for the period September 1, 1984 through August 31, 1985. to accept Guggenheim Fellowship.
  • Mr. Charles R. Hagwood, Assistant Professor of Mathematics, for the period September 1, 1984 through May 31, 1985, to conduct research at Stanford University.

  • Mr. David C. Jordan, Professor of Government and Foreign Affairs, for the period March 16, 1984 through August 31, 1986, to accept the Ambassadorship to Peru.
  • Mr. James J. Kauzlarich, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, School of Engineering and Applied Science, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1984, for research.
  • Dr. Robert W. McGilvery, Professor of Biochemistry, for the period July 1, 1984 through December 31, 1984, to do research.
  • Dr. Samuel E. Miller, Professor of Family Medicine, for the period April 1, 1984 through June 30, 1984, is on half-time basis due to his retirement on June 30, 1984.
  • Mr. Frederick S. Morton, Professor of Business Administration, for the period September 1, 1984 through May 31, 1989, to enable him to qualify for the early retirement plan as approved by the Board of Visitors.
  • Mr. Robert H. Owens, Professor of Applied Math and Computer Science, for the period September 1, 1984 through May 31, 1989, to take advantage of the Board of Visitors' action for half-time retirement for five years.
  • Ms. Rebecca W. Rimel, Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery, General Medical Faculty, for the period July 1, 1984 through September 30, 1985, to become the Program Manager for Health at the Pew Foundation.
  • Mr. James G. Turner, Assistant Professor of English, for the period January 16, 1985 through May 31, 1985, to accept post as Visiting Associate Professor at Northwestern University.
  • Mr. James G. Turner, Assistant Professor of English, for one semester, effective September 1, 1984, to complete a book.
  • Mr. Brian L. Wilcox, Assistant Professor of Psychology, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1984, has been awarded a Congressional Science Fellowship.
