THE LATIMER CASE

President Darden presented a letter from the Trust Department of the Continental
Illinois National Bank and Trust Company of Chicago, requesting authority of the Board for the

expenditure of the principal of the trust fund to take care of Mrs. Latimer, whose husband left her
a life interest only in the income of the estate. The Board approved the expenditure, subject to
advice by our Special Counsel that the University has the authority to enter into such an agreement.
