POSITIVISM:

a PHILOSOPHIC and religious movement founded in the nineteenth century by the French philosopher Auguste COMTE. Today it denotes a more general and widespread position not directly dependent on his views. The modern usage reflects a suspicion of all speculation not controlled by FACTS and sense experience.
