The Emperor Hadrian to his Soul.

Animula vagula, blandula,
Hospes comesque corporis,
Quæ nunc abibis in loca?
Pallidula, rigida, nudula,
Nec ut soles, dabis jocos.

Poor soul, now fluttering in unrest,
Erewhile caressing and caresst,
Of the body mate and guest,
Whither bound art thou?
Pale and stript and shivering left,
Of old use and wont bereft,
Jests are done with now.
