When our roving photographer spotted these two faculty members walking across the south end of the Lawn, he inquired as to why they failed to use the sidewalk. One said that "I hope to make the Lawn ugly so that students will have to pay attention to my lectures if they seek beauty." His companion felt that "I'm too important to the pursuit of knowledge to spare the time required to walk around the grass. What is mere grass compared to the research I can do in the two minutes I save by doing this every day?"
