LEAVES OF ABSENCE

The following resolution was adopted:

  • RESOLVED by The Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia that the following faculty members be and they are hereby granted leave of absence:
  • Mr. Daniel A. Albright, Assistant Professor of English, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1973, without pay, to accept a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship.
  • Mr. Vittorio Celli, Professor of Physics, for one semester, effective January 16, 1974, without pay, to visit the International Center for Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Italy.
  • Mr. Robert Dolan, Professor of Environmental Sciences, for one semester, effective January 16, 1974, without pay, to serve as a liaison scientist for the Office of Naval Research in England.
  • Mr. Larry M. Hackenberg, Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture, for one semester, effective September 1, 1973, without pay, to carry out independent study at the Paris Atelier.
  • Mr. John W. Israel, Associate Professor of History, for one semester, effective September 1, 1973, without pay, to pursue research.
  • Mr. Enno E. Kraehe, Commonwealth Professor of History, for one semester, effective September 1, 1973, without pay, to pursue research.
  • Mr. Theodore J. Marr, Assistant Professor of Speech, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1973, without pay, to accept an invitation to join a Hong Kong based consortium as the communication consultant.
  • Mr. Julius E. Rivers, Assistant Professor of English, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1973, without pay, to accept a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
  • Mr. Lewis E. Snyder, Associate Professor of Astronomy, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1973, without pay, to accept a fellowship to the Joint Institute for Laboratory Astrophysics, Boulder, Colorado.
  • Mr. Robert S. Stepleman, Assistant Professor of Applied Mathematics, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1973, without pay, to work in industry.
  • Mr. Alan Strahler, Assistant Professor of Environmental Sciences, for one semester, effective September 1, 1973, without pay, to accept a Harvard University Fellowship in Forest Research.
  • Mr. Peter H. Taylor, Commonwealth Professor of English, for one semester, effective September 1, 1973, without pay, to carry out research and writing.
  • Mr. Thomas R. White, Professor of Law, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1973, without pay, to serve on the Joint Committee on Internal Revenue Taxation.
