SOLITUDE.
Oh Solitude, divinest Solitude,Long at thy genial Breasts have I drawn in
The Milk of Wisdom, far from all vain Din
Of the World fretting in its noisy Mood!
Longnourished upon that celestial Food,
I feel each troubled Pulse which throbbed within
My Heart grow quiet, and at length begin
To comprehend the sublime Plenitude
Of Charms severe that dwell in thy calm Face;
No Wonder that the Crowd should pass thee by,
Since I myself but now begin to trace
Beauties unfelt before: each latent Grace,
Revealed alone by perfect Sympathy,
When heavenly Things to heavenly reply!
