TO THE BISHOP OF BANGOR.

APRIL 8, 1780.
'Tis true—we see, my Lord, the Times
So rank in Follies, Vices, Crimes,
That all the serious Truths you preach,
Instruct not, more than they impeach.
Yet while th' enormities, you blame,
Eclipse too visibly our fame,
One sign at least, of grace suspends
The total shame, our guilt portends.
For Censure's self will scarce engage,
Ev'n on so profligate an age
To fix an universal blot,—
Till Your Promotion is forgot.
