The tide went back, the sands were gaining slow;The tide went back—but now begins the flow!
Over those sands the thundering surge will go!

The sands are many—far and wide they spread;The sands are heavy, but their power is lead—
Fore-doom'd to find their level, ocean's bed!
III
For ever o'er the sands shall roll the tide,For ever Prussia in the depths abide,
For ever on the waves Britannia ride!
