LEAVES OF ABSENCE

  • The following resolution was adopted:
    RESOLVED by The Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia that the following persons be and they are hereby granted leave of absence:
  • Dr. Amelia Burnham, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, for the period September 1, 1978, through February 28, 1979, for personal reasons.
  • Miss Barbara A. Graham, Assistant Professor of Nursing, two-thirds time, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, to continue in the doctoral program.

  • Mr. Ronald M. Hartwell, Visiting Professor of Economics, for one semester, effective September 1, 1978, because of additional duties connected with his assumption of the Executive Directorship of the Center for Socio-Legal Studies, Oxford University.
  • Mr. William R. Johnson, Assistant Professor of Economics, for one semester, effective January 16, 1979, to visit Stanford University and the National Bureau of Economic Research, Stanford.
  • Mrs. Francesca Langbaum, Lecturer in Italian, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, for travel and research in England and Italy.
  • Mrs. Margaretha W. Langman, Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry (Psychology), for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, to accompany her husband to Germany.
  • Mr. Paul Miesing, Assistant Professor of Commerce, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, to serve as an AACSB Federal Faculty Fellow for NASA developing policies for the space shuttle program.
  • Mr. Brian Parshall, Associate Professor of Mathematics, for one semester, effective January 16, 1979, to visit the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton.
  • Mrs. Ann P. Pumphrey, Assistant Professor of Nursing, three-fourths time, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, to enter doctoral program at University of Virginia.
  • Mr. Edward J. Rinalducci, Associate Professor of Psychology, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, to serve as Visiting Professor of Psychology at Georgia Institute of Technology, during the 1978-79 academic year.
  • Mr. Leonard L. Scott, Professor of Mathematics, for one semester, effective September 1, 1978, to spend the semester at Yale University.
  • Mr. William J. Serow, Associate Professor, Tayloe Murphy Institute, for the period October 1, 1978, through June 30, 1979, to serve as visiting research associate at the Institute for Social Research at Florida State University and to conduct research in The Netherlands under a Fulbright-Hays Grant.
  • Mr. Trinh X. Thuan, Assistant Professor of Astronomy, for one semester, effective September 1, 1978, to conduct research at the Institut d'Astrophysique at the special invitation of the Director.
  • Miss Delba Winthrop, Assistant Professor of Government and Foreign Affairs, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, to accept a grant at the Radcliffe Institute for Independent Study.
