Then to feel turned to stone,
This is indeed an agony most deep—
Deadlier than pain of tears or passionate moan.
Then to feel turned to stone,
This is indeed an agony most deep—
Deadlier than pain of tears or passionate moan.

Sleep soothes the pent-up agony within,
Comfort and aid they win:
Weep thou, O God, for those who cannot weep!
Sleep soothes the pent-up agony within,
Comfort and aid they win:
Weep thou, O God, for those who cannot weep!
