Actions Relating to Chairholders

• The following resolution was adopted:
  RESOLVED that the actions relating to chairholders be and they are hereby approved as shown below:

• (a) Election of Chairholder(s)

• [t] Mr. Benjamin K. Bennett as William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor of German, effective January 1, 1993.
• [t] Ms. Cora Diamond as William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor of Philosophy, effective January 1, 1993.
• [t] Ms. Rita Dove as Commonwealth Professor of English, effective September 1, 1993.
• Mr. John H. Ely as John A. Ewald, Jr. Distinguished Visiting Professor of Law, for one semester, effective January 16, 1993.
• [t] Mr. John D. Lyons as Commonwealth Professor of French, effective January 1, 1993. Mr. Lyons will continue on leave of absence with partial pay for educational reasons.

• (b) Leaves of Absence of Chairholder(s)

• Mr. Edwin Burmeister, Commonwealth Professor of Economics, without pay, for the period September 1, 1993 through January 16, 1994, to do research.
• Ms. Maryse Conde-Philcox, University Professor, without pay, for the period September 1, 1993 through January 15, 1994, for educational purposes.

• Mr. Robert H. Trent, Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company Professor of Commerce, with pay, for the period January 16, 1993 through May 31, 1993, to do research.

• Mr. Thomas Hutchinson from William Stansfield Calcott Professor of Biomedical Engineering to William Stansfield Calcott Professor of Systems Engineering, effective March 1, 1993.
• Ms. Sally M. Jones from Carmen G. Blough Visiting Professor of Commerce to KPMG Peat Marwick Professor of Professional Accounting, effective September 1, 1993.

• [t] Mr. Aram Vartanian, William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor of French Languages and Literatures, effective May 31, 1993. Mr. Vartanian has been a member of the faculty since September 1, 1981.

• Mr. James R. Freeland as Associate Dean for Faculty, for one year, effective July 1, 1993.
