ca. 700 items, 1755-1958
Personal, business, and legal correspondence of this family of Botetourt and Rockbridge counties. Although the material is primarily personal, an 1858-59 farm diary kept by William Alexander lists the slaves and clothing allotted; a March 22, 1844, letter concerns the hiring of slaves; and a letter from Andrew Alexander to William Alexander comments on the effect of Nat Turner's Rebellion in Lexington.
