Taped interviews with local black residents of Petersburg and surrounding communities and with people involved in some manner with Virginia State University. Some of the subjects covered are segregation and desegregation in Petersburg and other central Virginia communities, the Great Depression, racism in the military, early days at Virginia State, white-black relations, early transportation, religion, the KKK, World Wars I and II, and education in general..
