JUSTIFICATION:

a technical THEOLOGICAL term used in the NEW TESTAMENT writings of PAUL to signify that act by which GOD restores humans to relationship with Himself. PROTESTANT REFORMERS and ROMAN CATHOLIC theologians disagreed as to how justification was to be interpreted. For the ROMAN CATHOLIC it means making just the SINNER through the infusion of SUPERNATURAL GRACE that blots out sin to regenerate the SOUL and makes it worthy of God the CREATOR. For the REFORMERS, justification is an act of divine FORGIVENESS brought about by FAITH on the basis of the SACRIFICE of CHRIST.
