Ere yet they shut the narrow space between,
Begins the prelude of a bloodier scene—
With sudden touch deep-throated engines roar,
Pierce heav'n's blue vault and dash the waves to shore;
Then madd'ning billows mock the fearful sound,
While o'er their surface globes of iron bound;
Unknown concussions rolling o'er their heads,
Far fly the monsters round their coral beds.
