PARABLE V. The Kingdom of Heaven compared unto a Treasure hid in a Field.
He yet a parable declar'd—
The reign of Christ may be compar'd
To treasure hid within the ground,
Which when a certain man had found,
In hasty joy he went by stealth,
And selling all his worldly wealth,
With ev'ry farthing he had got
He made a purchase of the spot.
The reign of Christ may be compar'd
To treasure hid within the ground,
Which when a certain man had found,
In hasty joy he went by stealth,
And selling all his worldly wealth,
With ev'ry farthing he had got
He made a purchase of the spot.
This treasure's Christ's eternal worth,
That time obscur'd upon the earth,
Which whoso had the grace to find,
And on such riches set his mind,
Held carnal wealth and fame as dross,
And sold the world, and bore the cross.
That time obscur'd upon the earth,
Which whoso had the grace to find,
And on such riches set his mind,
Held carnal wealth and fame as dross,
And sold the world, and bore the cross.
