Phi Beta Kappa.

At the annual convention of the Phi
Beta Kappa Society, held at Williamsburg,
Va., September 12, 1907, the University
of Virginia was granted a charter
for the installation of a chapter to be
known as Virginia Beta. The original
chapter at William and Mary, founded
December 5, 1776, is known as Virginia
Alpha.

On Saturday evening, September 21,
the University literary societies held a
mass-meeting in Madison Hall, in the interest
of oratory and debate among the
students. Addresses were made in behalf
of these worthy activities by President
Alderman, Professor Charles W.
Kent and Mr. Charles W. Paul.
