Paper Announces Openings

The Cavalier Daily, the only
daily student newspaper at the
University, needs staff
members from all the various
schools on the Grounds if it is
to expand with the growing
University enrollment.

The CD, in contrast to
many other college
newspapers, minimizes
coverage of common events
such as pep rallies and minor
ceremonies. Instead, the staff
attempts to inform the
students of the events of
importance to the student,
whether they be around the
Grounds or around the world.

Extensive Coverage

The CD's coverage of
curriculum reform, the war in
Vietnam, and the continued
growth of the University
reflect the desire not only to
tell the student "what" but,
more importantly, "why" and
"so what". This type of
philosophy extends even to
analyzes of the Honor System
and student politics and is
meant to promote intelligent
and knowledgeable discussion
on the Grounds.

All full-time students are
eligible to work on any of the
newspaper's various staffs of
news, features, sports, business
and advertising, circulation,
and photography. Staff
members are always needed as
more aspects of the news are
discussed analyzed, and
reported.

In addition, The Cavalier
Daily is attempting to involve
all students in the publishing of
the newspaper. Special
emphasis is placed upon the
recruitment of minority group
students, women, and students
outside of the College.

Student-Run

The Cavalier Daily is
completely student-run with
no censorship or control from
the administration or faculty.
The paper is published five
times a week, Monday through
Friday.

Examples of in-depth
reporting have included a
thorough investigation of the
relationship between Corner
bookstores and the University
and of the reasons for growth
of the University.

Benefits for all staff
members include the chance
for promotion to salaried
positions in the second year.
An exciting aspect of
newspaper work is the
understanding the staff
members obtain from
investigating University, local
and world news, and from
being where the news is made
when it is made.

In addition, many of the
former staff members have
gone on to work with various
national newspapers and
magazines following
graduation.

Applications will be
accepted throughout the year
by students visiting the offices
between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Monday through Thursday.
