Do you have an
environmental conscience and
a desire to act? Charlottesville's
ecology groups need you. Zero
Population Growth (ZPG),
Charlottesville Friends of the
Earth, and the Legal
Environment Group provide
outlets designed to channel the
energies of both potential and
active ecologists.

A community-based
organization, ZPG meets at
7:30 p.m. on the third
Wednesday of every month at
the Gordon Avenue Library.
Last year ZPG sponsored
newspaper pickups on the first
Saturday of every month at
Barracks Road, and this year
the group has expanded its
newspaper pickup operations.

A abortion and contraceptive
counseling is also available at
ZPG's 416 E. Jefferson St.
office.

ZPG University coordinator
Bill Warren stressed the need
for volunteers to help load
papers on the trucks. The
student membership fee is
$6.00, and those interested in
supporting or joining ZPG are
encouraged to see Mr. Warren
at the ZPG display on
Activities Night in Newcomb
Hall September 18.

Charlottesville Friends of
the Earth was founded in
January of this year. Although
membership is open to all
citizens of Charlottesville, it is
primarily made up of
University students.

The Friends are an
extremely flexible group and
will sponsor any environmental
project as long as there are
members to execute their
plans. Currently they are
reviving the on-Grounds
newspaper collection points
that were begun last year.

Anyone interested in the
group is urged to contact
University coordinators Chris
MacKay and Carol Watson at
331 Dunnington.

The Friends will also
maintain a booth on Activities
Night in Newcomb Hall. Their
only membership requirements
are concern for the
environment and the energy to
act.

The Legal Environment
Group (LEG) is a Law School
organization located in the
portable units behind Clark
Hall. While preparing
themselves for litigation, its
members offer legal assistance
to ecologically concerned
individuals and organizations.

In addition to sponsoring
courtroom demonstrations the
LEG is working to implement
certain facets of the National
Environmental Policy Act.

Rhetoric will not eliminate
environmental destruction.
Only action can help. Get
involved in the ecology
movement now.
