The Faculty Faces

illustration

For the first time ever, the
Daily Cavalier has printed a
photograph of a faculty meeting,
something strictly forbidden by
rules passed by the faculty when
they allowed representatives of
the student press to attend
meetings. In the foreground is the
Dean of the Faculty. David A.
Shannitzo the Younger, who is
glaring at the photographer who
was later beheaded. Behind him in
the Peanut Gallery are other
faculty members, who applauded
Mr. Shannitzo's action to "stop
those nosy students from
snooping around our meetings."

Attempts by the student press,
namely the Daily Cavalier, to be
allowed to photograph meetings
have always been repelled. The
reasoning for this is usually that
faculty members who speak at
meetings don't want to be
recognized around the Grounds,
since they are usually protected
from talking to students by
establishing office hours.

Though nothing much was
accomplished at this meeting of
the faculty, one member said that
it was worthwhile. "Because a lot
of us just like to get dressed up
even if we aren't going to do
anything."
