William's Successor

student," he said.

He speculated that a possible "mistake" the committee
made was "setting its criteria too high."

Also many of the people who have been approached by the
committee have asked not to be considered for various reasons
which has delayed the Committee further.

Mr. Shannon's resignation has made several potential
candidates vary because they would rather "wait and see who
the next president will be before throwing their hats in the
ring," according to Mr. Cross.

Many people are reluctant to give up a good faculty position
for the bureaucratic office of Student Affairs.

Another stumbling block experienced by the committee,
according to Mr. Cross, has been the opinion of students,
faculty and administrators that the University is unique and
needs a person who will understand the peculiar nature of the
school.

Mr. Cross does not believe the new vice president will be
picked over the summer and Mr. Williams will probably
continue with Student Affairs through the fall.
