State, Thompson Dominate Stats

By BILL BERNO

As the ACC season draws to
a close, N.C. State continues to
dominate the conference
statistics the same way that the
Wolfpack has dominated on
the court.

Thompson Excels

David Thompson, who has
exhausted everyone's supply of
superlatives, has virtually
locked up the individual
scoring title and has helped
State to a league-leading
scoring average.

Thompson is hitting at a
26.3 clip, far ahead of fading
Tony Byers at 22.4 and Lefty's
favorite Terp, Tom McMillen.
McMillen brings a 22.2 average
into U-Hall tomorrow night.

Turkey Tom is leading the
pack in field goal accuracy,
with a .606 percentage, but he
could manage only five of 15
shots against Wake Forest
Wednesday night in a 62-60
loss.

Bobby Jones is second with
a .599 mark, followed by
omnipresent Thompson with a
.581 percentage. Wally Walker
continues to place in the top
five with a .579 accuracy.

At the foul line, there is a
four-way battle for supremacy
in free throw percentage. Bud
Martin of Clemson leads at
.847, followed by Jim "Bozo"
O'Brien with .845, Chris
Redding of Duke at .843, and
Barry Parkhill with an .842
mark.

Burleson Leads Rebounding

Since former rebounding
leader Len Elmore has fallen
victim to a broken bone in his
foot, Tom Burleson has taken
over the rebound lead with an
11.5 average. The departed
Elmore averaged 11.2, and
UNC's Olympian Jones is a
solid third at 10.7.

Parkhill Top Cav Scorer

Cavaliers near the top
include Parkhill with a 17.0
scoring average good for
seventh place, Gus Gerard with
an eleventh place scoring
average of 14.1 and 8.3
rebounding average for sixth
spot, and Walker averaging
13.8 points in thirteenth place.

Team statistics feature N.C.
State, not surprisingly for a
24-0 team. The 'Pack is scoring
95.1 points per game, and
giving up only 71.3 for an
amazing scoring differential of
23.8. Only UCLA can boast of
larger winning margins.

North Carolina is the most
accurate team in the league,
hitting almost 55 percent of its
shots from the field. Maryland
has managed to put in 52
percent, and State is also
hitting 52 percent of its shots.
