NIT Takes Tech, AU

On the strength of a 17-5
season, which was capped by
last night's 87-83 win over the
Cavaliers, Virginia Tech
received a bid to the National
Invitational Tournament, it
was announced yesterday.

Although the Hokies had
been hoping for an at-large
berth in the NCAA
Championship,' the NIT invite
has to be pleasing for Don
Devoe and his boys, who were
not given much hope of doing
anything before the season
began.

Another area team,
American University in
Washington, was also asked to
attend the New York
extravaganzas, which begins
March 16. AU finished second
in the Eastern Division of the
Middle Atlantic Conference.
