Ballet

The performance was, for, me,
literally breathtaking. Miss Toth
should also be credited with a fine
performance although she was
inevitably somewhat overshadowed
by her famous partner. I may be an
amateur but even the most
untrained eye cannot help but
appreciate the sheer beauty of
motion.

"Speed Zone" by Samuel
Kurkjian, choreographer in
residence and Ballet Master of the
Boston Ballet, was set to Paul
Hindemeth's contemporary music. I
must confess that modern ballet
fails to gain the place in my heart
that the classical holds. But "Speed
Zone" certainly captured my
interest.

It began in the midst of
intermission with the dancers
warming up on stage, an element
incorporated in the choreography
of the entire piece. Dramatic
changes in lighting and the shock of
exploding panels of light bulbs as its
finale added to its unique quality.

The Boston Ballet and Villella
provided an evening of
entertainment seldom equaled in
our fair city.
